Green Infrastructure Sites

Project Name: Green Infrastructure Sites (also known as RainReady)

Project Duration: 2024 - Ongoing

Consultant: HDR, Inc.

Location: Several locations throughout the City of Newark

Project Summary: Newark’s green infrastructure program, also known as RainReady Newark, will improve stormwater management by implementing green infrastructure sites throughout the city. This includes the installation of porous concrete, permeable pavement, rain gardens, subsurface detention systems, tree canopies, and planters.

RainReady will reduce flooding, help minimize instances of combined sewer overflows (CSOs), improve water and air quality, and beautify Newark with more green space. This project is in part motivated by the Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As of March 2025, over 120 locations in the City of Newark have been identified as potential green infrastructure sites.
