The Clean Waterways, Healthy Neighborhoods initiative is a collaboration of the entities who own and operate combined sewer systems within the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) and North Bergen Municipal Utilities Authority (NBMUA) service areas.

The Joint Meeting has brought together the efforts of the member communities within Essex and Union Counties to dispose of their community wastes.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets regulations and guidance for the department of Water and Sewer, as well as other agencies across the nation.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection works closely with the agencies of Newark including the Department of Water and Sewer to ensure that environmental protection standards are being upheld.

PVSC works to enhance the viability, environmental health and security of the 1.5 million residents in the 48 municipalities of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union and Passaic Counties of the Passaic Valley Service District.
