Our Mission
To serve a continuous supply of the purest, safest and best tasting water possible for the City of Newark. We pledge, as funding and staffing allows, to protect the utility investments by ensuring and maintaining the integrity and security of the City of Newark’s water and sewer infrastructure.
Our Vision
To serve all our customers with outstanding service by providing reliable and cost-effective water services in accordance with best practices, while meeting and exceeding the New Jersey State Safe Drinking Water Act and federal regulations. We will ensure the collection and delivery of sewage generated in the city to the designated treatment facilities to protect waterways from pollution.

Similarly, the Department is dedicated to maintaining our sewer infrastructure and collection system, which includes 420 miles of collection mains of which 50% is vitrified clay and 20% is brick, varying in size from 8-inch to 120-inch diameter; over 7,600 catch basins; 17 combined sewer overflow structures with seven netting facilities and six screening facilities; two stormwater pumping stations; five stormwater drainage outfalls, and finally, the South-Side Interceptor, which is a four mile trunk sewer main that transports the wastewater from the southern part of the City directly to the treatment plant.
