Project Summary: The City of Newark, in collaboration with Xylem, is performing water main pipe inspections using the Smartball® and PipeDiver® condition assessment platforms. These free-floating devices utilize acoustic or sound waves (Smartball®) and ultrasonic or ultramagnetic data (PipeDiver®) to detect leaks, cracks, wall corrosion, or other damages inside the pipe. The City continues to perform inspections with these devices on water mains with a history of water main breaks.
