Newark Department of Water & Sewer Discusses Careers in Water at the 2024 NJIT Career Fair

NEWARK, N.J. – September 25, 2024 – Engineers and representatives from the City of Newark Department of Water and Sewer Utilities participated at the 2024 NJIT Career Fair to share information about career opportunities in Newark’s water system.  

Newark Water and Sewer is hiring for various full-time and internship positions in mechanical, civil, environmental, and chemical engineering. Among the positions listed are “Principal Engineer”, “Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator”, “Lab Technician for Water Analysis”, and “Chemist.”

NJIT students came prepared with questions about the Department’s current projects, impact, and career paths available for young professionals. Departmental engineers interacted with students to discuss a typical day on the job, the hiring process, and opportunities for growth.

“We are excited to get our career opportunities out there to young college students”, said Water & Sewer Director Kareem Adeem. “The City is eager to bring in the next generation of leaders to take charge and protect Newark’s drinking water.” 

The Department received 70 resumes from NJIT students and alumni interested in working with Newark’s water and wastewater system. 

Director Adeem also emphasized the Department is also hiring for non-engineering and non-STEM positions. 

“We have accountants, attorneys, public relations experts, environmentalists, laborers, and field operators”, Director Adeem said. “We are looking for people who will support all aspects of everyday operations at the Water Department.” 

Newark Water & Sewer handed out water bottles, Winnie and Sammie stress balls, and booklets with more information on careers in water.

Newark Water & Sewer will also be attending the 2024 Annual Career Fair at Rutgers-Newark Campus on October 9th.
