Newark to Replace 250 Fire Hydrants in 2025 and 2026: Temporary Water Disruptions Expected During Replacements

Improving Newark’s Water Infrastructure

The City of Newark’s Fire Hydrant Replacement Program began on Monday, August 4, 2025.

250 damaged fire hydrants are slated for replacement between 2025 and 2026.

As the work moves through different neighborhoods, residents may experience temporary water disruptions, such as low water pressure or discolored water. During replacements, disruptions may last 2-4 hours.

Residents will receive advance notice of work in their area via mail from the City’s contractor, The Shauger Group.

This project will strengthen Newark’s water system and make sure our communities have reliable water service.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we keep Newark flowing strong!
