Newark, NJ – October 20, 2024 – The City of Newark Department of Water & Sewer Utilities was a Silver Sponsor for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday.

The Department joined forces with breast cancer survivors, thrivers, and thousands of local community members in a 3.1-mile walk to raise awareness of the disease and fundraise for breast cancer research.

“We are excited to be joining our community to support breast cancer awareness”, said Newark Water & Sewer Director Kareem Adeem. “Many of our employees and their family members have been affected by this disease, so this cause is very important to us.”

Student volunteers from the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) at Rutgers–Newark joined the Department to hand out pink water bottles, tote bags, water education activity books for children, and more.

Pink Newark Water & Sewer-branded water bottles and other merchandise were handed out at the Breast Cancer Walk.

Our water drop mascots, Winnie and Sammie, made a surprise appearance before the walk kicked off!
